To Avoid Health Workers Going On Strike, The Government Should Do Everything Possible To Meet Their Demands —  Mr. Osei-Bonsu

Mr Kwabena Osei-Bonsu, a Socio-Economic Analyst, has recommended that the government takes steps to address the demands of Ghana’s health workers in order to avert strike action.

Mr Osei-Bonsu made this known in an interview with Focus FM’s Nana Ama Dwomoh Nuakoh on the Teknokrat show on Friday, 29th October 2021.

Strikes, according to Mr Osei-Bonsu, have a number of detrimental consequences for a country’s economic progress.

He explained that when a citizen becomes unwell and is not treated or cared for at the hospital as a result of health workers’ strike actions, they are unable to work efficiently for themselves and the country.

When someone is unable to operate well due to illness, productivity suffers and they are unable to contribute efficiently to the nation, stifling economic development. This, he claims, is one of the reasons why strikes should really be avoided, particularly in the health care sector.

He said that the best option for the administration to end all of these strike actions is to meet the requests of the health workers. Whatever agreements and memorandums of understanding that are required, he emphasized, should be completed in order to end the strike.

“When these health workers return to work and the sick are attended to, productivity will increase which will have a positive impact on the country.”
