Road Accidents: 357 Deaths In The Ashanti Region In The First Half Of 2021
Jeff Aboagye, a researcher, has revealed that the Ashanti Region remains the leading region with regard to road accidents this year.
Master Jeff made this known in an interview with Focus FM’s Blessing Doe on the Teknokrat show on Tuesday, 2nd November 2021.
In the interview, he mentioned that a total number of 357 lives were lost in the Ashanti Region through road crashes from January to July, the first half of the year 2021.
“Ashanti Region leads again. It was the leading region in 2020 and currently leading in 2021. In the last 36 hours, 47 people have died in road accidents in the region. “
In the regional breakdown, he revealed that “the regional breakdown includes Ashanti (423), Accra (341), Eastern (357), Tema (151), Central (151), Bono East (95), Western (91), Volta (84), Upper East (77), Savanna (72), Bono (70), Ahafo (56), Western North (54), Northern (46), Upper West (37), Oti (15) and North East (6).”

He mentioned that the lack of enforcement of road regulations, reckless driving, poorly lit roads, are a few of the reasons contributing to these alarming numbers of deaths. He further explained that most drivers do not follow road regulations and therefore put the lives of their passengers in danger.
Stressing on some solutions, he urged drivers to drive in the prescribed speed limits on various roads, seat belts, motorists should always put on helmets, and other safety equipment before driving a motorcycle or vehicle, avoid drunk driving, desist from the use of mobile phones while driving and know the traffic signs and traffic safety rules before driving on roads.
