KNUST Qualifies For The Grand Finale Of The GAS Challenge

The Ghana National Gas Company Limited (Ghana Gas), Tuesday, November 2, 2021, organized the Gas Challenge for zone two. The event was held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), College of Engineering auditorium.

The contest was held between KNUST, All Nations University (ANU), and the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).

As Team Propane from the University of Ghana is already Zone One champions, it was time for Zone Two to crown its champion for the final contest.
In zone two, the contest was between Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), All Nations University (ANU), and University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).

The various universities were represented with the names, Lean Gas, Pentane, and LNG respectively. The contest was spread out into five rounds, Team Lean gas (KNUST) pulled an early round one lead but were behind from round two into round four to Team LNG (UENR).

In the final round, KNUST restored their early lead to win the contest by 68 points. The University of Energy and Natural Resources placed second with 66 points and All Nations University came third with 45 points.

This gives Team Lean Gas from KNUST the qualification into the final. In an interview with Focus FM, the winning team, Lean Gas expressed their excitement and gave thanks to the almighty God.

“We are very excited about winning this contest because it’s a competition. Because we remember before the final round, they were leading us by seven points and I don’t know, we nearly lost hope.”

They assured the university community of victory in the final competition.

“As we are preparing for the finals, we know that there is much work to do. We’ve won this part and we are going to do much work and we can assure KNUST that we are bringing the trophy to KNUST.”

Meanwhile, preparations are being put in place for the continuation of the competition on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at the Takoradi Technical University to determine the final university to join the final contest.

Background

The Gas Challenge is a quiz competition organized among tertiary institutions studying Oil and Gas. They are tested to know their knowledge about the Gas Industry and Ghana Gas.

This is aimed at capacity building of individuals, publicity to the Ghana Gas, and the usage of gas in the country. This will allow the contestants to have experience in the Ghana Gas operation and take over the industry in the future
