Coronavirus: KNUST SRC president calls on students to stay safe and sane as school closes down

To slow the spread of the coronavirus, society is becoming much less social. Public areas are emptying, businesses are shutting down, and schools and day cares are closing. Parents are struggling to navigate this new way of isolated family life, often with imperfect information.

President of the Student Representative Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Master Adu-Baah Charles has asked all students of the university to remain at home as much as they can to avoid possible contact with individuals with the novel coronavirus.

He has called on students to practice all necessary health precaution measures in order to avoid a possible contraction of the COVID-19.

Speaking in an interview with Tek TV, Adu-Baah stated noted that “staying indoors will decrease the chances of getting infected“.

All students of the university were asked on Monday 16th March 2020, to vacate the premises of the school following the directive from the president of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo ordering the suspension of all academic activities over the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the KNUST SRC president, the majority of students of the school reside in different parts of the country, some of which have recorded confirmed cases of the COVID-19.

Now that the situation is in Accra and Kumasi, I would advise that we don’t attend so many programs among others so that we don’t come back to school with the virus. Stay home and be safe.”

He called on all students to make the most out of the current indefinite break, urging all students to study their books while they are still at home.
