
Akufo Addo declares March 25 national fasting and prayer day over coronavirus

President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo has declared Wednesday, March 25, a national fasting and prayer day in Ghana to help the fight the coronavirus efflux.
Speaking on Saturday evening at 09:00GMT during his address to the nation he called on people of all religious backgrounds across the country to observe the day for prayer and fasting to seek the intervention of GOD in the fight against Corona Virus.
“Whilst we continue to adhere to these measures and wrap up our efforts to defeat this virus, I urge all of us also to see the face of the Almighty. So on Wednesday 25 March 2020, I appeal to all Ghanaian Christians and Muslims to observe a national day of fasting and prayer.”
Before this announcement, President Akufo-Addo, on Thursday, met with some members of the Christian community to pray for the nation.
The Vice-President also met up with the Cheif Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, along with other high-profile Muslim leaders on Friday, to observe prayer for the country.
President Akufo-Addo, during his address, added, with the increasing cases of localized infections, it is important Ghanaians maintain strict self-discipline to help minimize the spread of the virus.
“I am pleading with every one of you comply with these measures our survival is in our own hands,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the country’s recorded cases of coronavirus have increased to 21. However, one person, a Lebanese trader living in Kumasi, the Ashanti Region capital, passed away from the virus on March 21.
The President in his speech made some declarations such as the closure of the nation’s borders from midnight on Sunday, March 22 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The border closure is to last for two weeks according to President Nana Akufo-Addo and “will not apply to goods, supplies, and cargo.”
“All our borders; by land, sea, and air, will be closed to human traffic for the next two weeks beginning midnight on Sunday,”
In his speech, He further admonished that the fight was solely up to Ghanaians to do. The President continued to call on Ghanaians to stick to the methods of washing their hands regularly and consistent cleaning of hands with alcohol-based sanitizers.
