
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has finally suspended the impending mid-semester examination and all other academic activities for the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year.
This follows the directive by the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo to shutdown all universities effective Monday 16th March 2020.
President Nana Akufo-Addo in a national address on Sunday said the ban will be in force for the next four weeks.
Management of KNUST on Friday announced for the suspension of all activities on its campus in line with the World Health Organization’s declaration of the Novel Coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) as a pandemic, and the confirmation of some cases in Ghana by the Ministry of Health.
Meanwhile, management of the University of Ghana has announced the suspension of all lectures on its campus until further notice.
This follows the confirmation that one of its students tested positive for the virus.
In a statement from the University, it explained that the infected student had returned to Ghana from an international trip.
Coronavirus cases in Ghana
As at noon on Sunday March 15, 2020, six cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed in Ghana.
Director of Public Health at Ghana Health Service, Dr Badu Sarkodie who provided updates on the country’s cases on Sunday said all the cases were imported into the country.
The first two cases were confirmed on Thursday, March 12, 2020.
Two other cases were confirmed on Friday, March 13, 2020, while an additional two were confirmed on Saturday, March 14, 2020.
Five of the cases were confirmed in the Greater Accra Region while the remaining one was confirmed in the Ashanti Region.
