KNUST bans ‘morale’, musical concert as students without nose mask are to be denied entry into lecture halls

Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has officially prohibited social activities that has nothing to do with academics on campus effective Monday, January 18, 2020.

“All social gatherings, including ‘morale’, musical concert are banned,” this was contained in a letter signed by the Registrar of the university, Mr. Andrews Kwasi Boateng which clearly indicated that the management was resolute in ensuring strict adherence to the Covid-19 safety protocols on campus.

The letter further indicated that renting of, and or use of university facilities, either in the Colleges or Halls/Hostels of Residence, for activities, other than academic purposes are not permitted.

It noted that religious activities should be organized under strict adherence to the Covid-19 Protocols.

This follows the president’s directive on measures taken against the spread of Corona Virus in the country which indicate that there should be no mass gatherings and sporting activities upon resumption of schools in the country.

Speaking in an interview with John Essien on Focus FM, the University Relations Officer, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe called on all student association leaders and Hall executives to ensure the strict adherence to the Covid-19 safety protocols.

“This notice is served to all Heads of Departments, Provosts, Dean of Students and all administrative offices in the university including Halls and Colleges executives. Nobody should organize any event which has nothing to do with academics on campus,” he said.

Student without nose mask are not allowed into lecture halls and halls of residents.

As part of measures to enforce strict adherence to the Covid-19 protocols on campus, management of KNUST has enforced a ‘No Nose Mask No Entry’ measures. To this point all security personnel and lecturers have been given the right to deny anyone without nose mask entry into the various halls of residents and lectures halls according to the University Relations Officer, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe.

“All members of the university community including visitors are supposed to put on nose mask at any point in time or else they will be denied entry into offices, halls of residents and lecture halls,  Dr. Norris Bekoe further indicated.

Meanwhile, lectures have commenced for all students of the university with social distancing protocols adherence.
