Celestine Donkor Reveals why she featured Secular Artists on her new song “Thank You.”
Celestine Donkor, Ghanaian award-winning gospel musician, and songwriter, recently released a song “Thank You”, featuring Gospel Musician Cynthia from Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Secular artistes Efya, and Akwaboah.
This song, however, has become the talk of the day, with people criticizing her due to her choice of featured artists.
In a media interview, however, she responded to criticisms about her featuring the various artists that she did.
In her view, she said she is not one to criticize people due to what they do as she has no power to do so.
“I don’t agree with the school of thought that secular artistes are backed with demons. To me, I see what they do as their career path or a direction of craft that they have taken.”
According to Celestine, she wouldn’t want to judge people based on the way they live their lives. In the interview, she did make mention that she respects people and also believes that whatever goes on in people’s lives is between them and God.
Her new song “Thank God”, as she put it, is about thanking God for everything that he has done. She, therefore, stated that the song’s main focus however was to thank God for surviving a difficult COVID year.
When the COVID-19 pandemic emerged in the country, it affected all lives, not only did Christians go through such turmoil but secular people too.
“I had pictured in mind that the song should bring society together in a thanksgiving”
“When COVID came, it didn’t take out secular people. Nobody was exempted, not even Kids.”
The song “Thank You” is mainly to bring people together”, she further noted.
She further revealed that she had actually written the song 3 years ago that she used to minister in churches because she normally does that to test waters every time before releasing her songs.

As she had pictured her new song bringing people together, she had thought of bringing in a legend, thus, Mama Cynthia of Daughters of Glorious Jesus, then she thought of mothers, the caregiving character, which she represents, and also someone to represent the youth. According to her, it didn’t matter whether the latter was from a Christian background or secular, she just needed someone with a story, to cut across.
Prior to that, she chose Efya to represent the youth. For Efya, she said, there had been a prophecy that Efya was going to die, and having survived COVID-19, and that year to be precise, there was no one to express their thanksgiving as she would, thus she was perfect for the role.
Akwaboah on the other hand was featured to represent men. She specified that she chose Akwaboah because she had met him a number of times and he had always proposed they make a song together, so that influenced her choice of picking him to represent the male youth.
