GRASAG KNUST Goes To The Polls Today After a 3 Week Hold On Election

The suspended General elections for the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) chapter comes off today after the electoral commission resumed the electioneering processes after being granted the permission to continue with its mandate.

Following incidents that happened at the Great Hall of KNUST several weeks ago, all activities leading to students’ elections were put on hold, pending a select committee’s report and recommendations on the happenings.

However, peace has been sustained on campus and students of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) -KNUST have trooped in in their numbers to vote.

As expected, there’s the presence of security personnel to ensure law and order and that electorates abide by the dreadful Covid-19 protocols. As usual, the GRASAG-KNUST election format remains the same as the commission is poised on sticking to the two-day election period to allow room for weekend students to also have a say in the GRASAG governance system.

Speaking with some electoral commission representatives at the KNUST School of business -the principal polling station- the representatives explained that they had some technical challenges in the morning but got it resolved which made the process begin around 10am.

However, students have been coming in their numbers to exercise their franchise. All have beenĀ  abiding by the safety protocols put in place so far.

The electoral commission has made a commendable gesture by making provisions for nose masks to be made available at all polling stations for students without masks to be provided with one.
