AWCON QUALIFIER : Ghana Suffers 2-0 Defeat Against Nigeria in Lagos

Ghana’s female national team, the Black Queens, suffered a 2-0 loss against Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the first leg of the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations Qualifier (AWCON) in Lagos.

The Nigerians opened the score on the 20th minute through attacker Uchenna Kanu.

5 minutes later, she added a second for the Falcons which sealed the 2-0 victory.

The Black Queens were able to regain themselves back into the game, but efforts to secure an away goal proved futile as they were unable to breach the Nigerian goal.

This is the first leg of the tie which determines the team advancing to the next stage of the AWCON qualifiers.

The Black Queens were without several key players including captain Elizabeth Addo, Sandra Owusu Ansah, Sherifatu Sumaila, Ernestina Abambila amongst others.

The return leg will be played on 24th October in Accra.
