Tertiary Institutions likely to run Double Track System – Joseph Yamin.

The Former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Yamin has joined some Ghanaians who believe Tertiary Institutions in Ghana will soon run a double-track system.

In November last year, an academic group, progressive Intellectuals made of Academics and intellectuals from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, and the University of Development Studies raised the same concerns that the surge in the number of students in the Second Cycle institutions due to  ‘Free SHS’ which has resulted in a double-track system will likely have the same effect on Tertiary institutions.

Speaking at the 6th edition of the National Students Awards and Election Summit organized by CliqAfriq Ghana on Saturday 31st October 2020, Hon. Yamin stated that the NPP’s administration in its quest to implement the ‘Free SHS’ policy did not consider the aftermath of the policy.

“There is a growing future, that if we don’t take care, we may be practicing a double-track system in the tertiary level of our education because we never thought of the aftermath of the introduction of the ‘Free Secondary School and so development after the secondary school level is lacking’’

He reiterated the position of the National Democratic Congress that the ‘Free SHS’ policy is going to be reviewed for better implementation when they are given the mandate.

He further cautioned the youth to desist from being used by some politicians to cause mayhem during electioneering activities and urged all Ghanaians to help in ensuring peaceful elections before, during, and after the 2020 elections.
