The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Universities Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), has announced their intentions to withdraw teaching and embark on an indefinite strike if conditions are not met.
In a statement signed and sealed by the National President and National Secretary of UTAG, it states that “UTAG resolves to follow through its decision to withdraw TEACHING, one of its main duties, from 2nd August, 2021 if no agreement is reached by 31st July, 2021.”
They have given the government a 9-day ultimatum from today, to agree on their terms and conditions or face whatever comes their way.
The intension of the UTAG is on the grounds of Government’s failure to address the worsening conditions of UTAG’s members within an agreed period.
According to the statement, negotiation of UTAG’s conditions of service which started two years ago was scheduled to come to a close by the end of this month, 31st July,2021, has been delayed with no end in sight.
However, the Association after a recent meeting with the government strongly indicated that if by the close of July, no agreement is reached, there would be no other option but to resort to an indefinite strike, withdrawing their main duty, TEACHING also.
They therefore await an agreement from government or resort to indefinite strike.
