University of Ghana Medical Centre to be fully operational July 2021
The Government officially opened an out-patient Department (OPD) and Administration Unit of the 650-bed Facility, the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
The Chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), Dr. Anarfi Asamoa-Baah noted that the Centre would only attend to referral cases limited to three main departments, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, and ENT, with Laboratory and Pharmacy services.
Dr. Asamoa-Baah also said although the facility is not an emergency centre, it has the capacity to cater for some emergency cases.
Initially, the medical Centre had only recruited 181 health professionals to add to its staff trend, but three years on, they have seen a bit of a change.
Its CEO, Dr. Darius Osei, explained that a lot has changed since then.
“We’ve been able to get 775 out of which about 36 consultants, that is specialists. Out of it, 6 consultants, 25 senior specialists, and the definition for this facility is to have this set of specialists to man the affairs here.”
However, it has been announced that the Medical Centre is preparing, and will be fully operational in July 2021.
