Traders warned against Spending the night at market places
Traders in various market squares have been warned to desist from turning business spaces into homes at night.
Analysts have come to a realization that such actions are possible causes of fire outbreak in the country.
This warning comes on the back of a fire outbreak that destroyed the timber market in Sunyani on Saturday.
The fire started in the early hours of Saturday and spread widely before personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service could arrive at the scene.
It caused extensive damage to parked lumber, finished products, plastic materials, several industrial machines and equipment and an unspecified amount of money.
The Bono Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO), Heroine S. Boakye said her outfit will soon be educating market leaders in their quest to ensure that such outbreaks are prevented.
“We’ve realized that the marketplace is no more for buying and selling but rather it’s been used as people’s home aftermarket and others also use the place as their entertainment centres and having their fun there and all these things contribute to the outbreak of fire.”
“So we will meet the market leaders and educate them on how tight the security of the marketplaces should be.”
