The Assin North parliamentary election in 2020 has been canceled by the court, as new elections have been ordered
The Assin North Constituency 2020 parliamentary election has been declared null and illegal by the Cape Coast High Court in the Central Region.
As a result, the court has ordered that a new election be held in the constituency.
The court, presided over by Justice Kwasi Boakye, issued its ruling on Wednesday, July 28, 2021.
In his ruling, Justice Boakye affirmed that Joe Gyakye Quayson, the National Democratic Congress’s 2020 parliamentary candidate for the constituency, violated the constitution’s dual citizenship rules.
The verdict implies that the NDC now has 136 seats in Parliament, compared to the NPP’s 137, until a by-election is held.
