President Akuffo-Addo swears in Kissi Agyebeng as the new Special Prosecutor
Kissi Agyebeng has been sworn in by President Akufo-Addo as the new Special Prosecutor. The 43-year-old succeeds Martin Amidu, who resigned in November 2020 after accused President Trump of interfering with his job.
In the presence of the Chief of Staff, Attorney General, other government officials, and several traditional elders, Mr. Agyebeng was vested with the new authority on Thursday at the Jubilee House.
During the inauguration, the President reminded the new appointee that, while “the ambit of the position is broad and challenging,” he has a responsibility to fight corruption independently and impartially.
He further promised Mr Agyebeng that no government appointment would interfere with his legal obligations.
The Special Prosecutor’s Office is a Parliament-created independent investigative and prosecutorial authority that investigates and prosecutes corruption, bribery, and other criminal crimes at the national level, whether in the public or private sector.
Mr. Agyebeng will be in office for seven years.
