
One of the four presidential candidates in this year’s Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Students Representative Council elections, Bonney Rexford Joseph, has been disqualified from contesting.
A statement signed by the Chairman of the KNUST Interim SRC Electoral commission, Andrews Anokye indicated that the decision was as a result of the rustication of Rexford Bonney from the school on the basis of misconduct.
“From the forgoing, he cannot carry himself as a candidate in the upcoming SRC election,” the statement noted.
All other 12 candidates contesting for various executive portfolios still remain in the race.
The SRC election, scheduled to be held ON 28th January, 2021 will have three persons vying for the office of the President, two for General Secretary, four contesting for Treasurer and three in the Women’s Commissioner race.

Meanwhile, the Interim KNUST SRC Electoral commission has released official schedules for the organization of this year’s SRC elections.
KNUST reduces deadline for student biometric registration ahead of SRC elections.
In view of the upcoming Student Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) elections to be held on Thursday, 28th January, 2021, the deadline for the students’ biometric registration has been brought forward from Monday, 8th February to Tuesday, 26th January 2021.
This was contained in a letter signed by the Deputy Registrar (Academic Affairs) of KNUST, Mrs. Magaret Dzisi with copies made available to Focus News Room.
KNUST Interim SRC to hold elections 14 days upon resumption of academic activities
Prior to the postponement of the KNUST SRC elections until further notice as a result of the closure of public universities due to the coronavirus pandemic last year, executives of the KNUST SRC signed an act which made provision for the institution of an Interim Students’ Representative Council (ISRC) until proper electioneering process took place to elect substantial leaders for the Council.
This became necessary after the SRC brushed off any form of elections, whether online or delegate.
The instrument gave an ultimatum to the ISRC to organize ‘SRC and NUGS elections within the first fourteen days upon the commencement of the new academic year for continuing students’.
