For the preparation of this year’s KNUST 70 years anniversary, there has been a call for a mascot competition prior to the event.

The KNUST planning committee has therefore called for entries from interested persons to design a mascot for the anniversary.

The theme for this year’s anniversary is “KNUST, 70 years of Global Impact; a New age for a Renewed Focus.”

It was also revealed by the KNUST University Relations Officer & Deputy Registrar, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, that this year’s 70 Years Anniversary will be celebrated in a grand style, as the school has come this far with so many achievements.

KNUST now stands as the Best University in Ghana, and the 12th in Africa.

Dr. Norris Bekoe revealed this at a Seminar with Bloggers and Student Journalists on Friday, February 19, 2021.

ABOUT KNUST

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is a world-class academic centre of excellence, spearheading West Africa’s pursuit of technological advancement. Our campus is located in a very ideal place inside the city of Kumasi.

With an estimated eight-mile square of aesthetic beauty, a rising and falling landscape, state-of-the-art buildings,   a wide range of trees,  long stretches of well-cut lawns, and very conspicuous flora prettification,  our community provides the right atmosphere for the holistic development of students.

There are over 100 student groups and organizations on campus, although that number keeps expanding because students are encouraged to start new clubs to fit their interests – and they don’t hesitate to do so! All student groups are governed and managed by students, and there is literally something for everybody.

The University of Science and Technology succeeded the Kumasi College of Technology which was established by a Government Ordinance on 6th October 1951. It was, however, opened officially on 22nd January 1952 with 200 Teacher Training students transferred from Achimota, to form the nucleus of the new College.

The Act establishing the University defines its mandate, which essentially is to provide higher education, undertake research, disseminate knowledge, and foster relationships with the outside persons and bodies. The strategic mandate of the University is derived from Science and Technology in its name.
