From September 30, the NRSA, DVLA, and MTTD will crack down on the usage of non-prescribed lighting

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has teamed up with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to crack down on drivers who use unapproved lighting.

Representatives of the aforementioned road safety agencies will begin an exercise to remove unlawful lighting on Monday, September 30, 2021, according to a statement released by the NRSA.

Offenders will be arraigned in court and prosecuted, according to the statement.

The Authority expressed worry about the increased usage of unlicensed lamps on the roadways, noting that “the practice exposes other road users to the risk of collisions, especially at night.”

The use of unlawful lamps, according to the NRSA, is in violation of Regulation 65 of the 2012 Road Traffic Regulations (L.I. 2180).
