Fire Destroys Shops at Kumasi Central Market

 Fire has gutted the Kumasi Central Market, destroying over twenty shops.

According to reports, the fire started around 8:00 pm yesterday, April 18, 2021, and spread through shops operated by cobblers at the market.

The Ashanti Regional Deputy Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service said they received a distress call around 8:48 pm about a fire outbreak at the Central market.

He quickly dispatched his men and upon arrival, they saw that the whole place had been engulfed by the fire, affecting about 27 shops. 

They tried their best to confine the fire, despite the interference from the traders.

He noted that they spent hours trying to bring the situation under control.

However, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
