8 more deaths of Covid-19 reported in Ghana.

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reported that Ghana’s  covid-19 death toll currently stands at 1,263.

The increase in the death toll is as a result of eight deaths recorded within the last four days, meanwhile The death toll stood at 1,255 as of December 12.

The service reported an increase in the number of active cases in the country in its most recent update. As of December 16, there were a total of 1,954 active cases.

In addition, new cases have emerged. The virus has infected approximately 437 people. These incidents occurred in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions, as well as at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

In its previous update, the Ghana Health Service stated that the number of active and new cases recorded was 973 and 71, respectively.

The new cases bring Ghana’s total number of confirmed cases to 133,046 since the virus’s emergence in March of last year.

So far, 129,829 people who became infected with the virus have recovered. They have been released from the various medical facilities.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has called for the suspension of all events, in order to avert a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases during this year’s Christmas festivities.
