
UMB TERTIARY AWARDS: Yiadom Boakye makes KNUST proud as he wins ‘student of the year’ award
A student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and former Presidential candidate of the National Union of Ghana Student elections, Yiadom Boakye popularly known as YB has won the ‘Student of the year’ and ‘Student activist of the year’ awards at the just ended Universal Merchant Bank Ghana Tertiary awards 2020.
The event which occurred at the National Theatre in Accra on Friday 13th November 2020 had over 700 nominees vying for the various categories.
Yiadom Boakye (YB) was nominated in the category alongside Barikisu Meyu, Clara Benson, Etty Bedi, Edward Ibrahim Fofana, Belinda Nuamah Adusei, Richmond Koduah, Bossman Adu Love, Dennis Appiah Larbi, Naabu Ngula Joshua, Israel Norshie, Shadrack Inusah, Jackeline Acheampong.
However, Yiadom Boakye (YB) won the ultimate award as ‘student of the year’, winning a cash prize of 1000 cedis from the sponsors. He also carried the ‘student activist of the year’ award.
The Former NUGS Presidential candidate has been very influential in the affairs of students especially during the partial lockdown when he donated food items and drinks to support the ‘NUGS FOOD BANK’ initiative which was distributed to some students across the country.
He also introduced the ‘support your Alma mater campaign’ an initiative that sought to provide Personal Protective Equipment, hand sanitizers, nose masks, and other covid-19 preventive items to Senior High Schools to help in the fight against Covid-19.
Recently he won the ‘most influential student’ at the National Student Awards 2020 which was held in KNUST.
