“Improve working conditions of nurses in Ghana especially those in remote areas”- A senior nurse

A senior staff nurse and the Chairman for the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) for the Sekyere-East District in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Stephen Adjare has called on the government to improve on the working conditions of nurses in Ghana especially those in the remote areas.

Speaking on the  Teknokrat show with Focus FM’s Maame Adwoa Brembah, the staff said that Ghanaian nurses in hospitals across the country are ever ready to work but the working conditions which include satisfactory remuneration and availability of basic healthcare equipment are not favorable for a smooth provision of healthcare.

“Our working conditions are a big issue. We’re always not that much satisfied with the things we receive because if you go to various clinics, you would realize that most of the nurses and midwives are not getting the right tools and equipment to deliver healthcare” he said.

He noted that the government has been addressed with regard to the provision of basic tools and equipment for the administration of quality healthcare.

According to him, the government’s response to the demand of nurses’ has not been entirely satisfactory, adding that they are still in the hope that working conditions would get better over the years especially since health workers have received a lot of applause in this COVID-19 pandemic.

He, however, appreciated the government’s efforts in its fight against COVID-19 and further urged that provision of Personal Protective Equipment be made available to hospitals and clinics in the rural areas of the country.
