UG: Commonwealth JCR gives members May 28 deadline to come for belongings

The Junior Common Room of the Commonwealth Hall, University of Ghana, has given its members up to May 28 to come for their belongings in the hall as permission has been granted from University authorities.

Students have been asked to leave no item behind when they come to undertake the exercise.

This exercise takes place between the hours of 8 am to 4 pm each day and no one will be allowed to stay behind. Remember to carry all your belongings and leave no item behind,” the Commonwealth Hall JCR added.

Following reports on theft cases on the University of Ghana campus; students petitioned the Student Representative Council (SRC) to negotiate with management so they could come for their items in the halls.

Speaking on the Campus Exclusive Show, Dr. Wiafe Akenteng, the Head of Halls confirmed that students could come for their belongings from the halls, commencing Monday, 27th April 2020.

He reiterated that every student should carry along their student identification card and comply with the preventive measures on the spread of coronavirus; wear protective masks, use of hand sanitizer, and the observance of social distancing.

The exercise would last for at least two weeks and every student is expected to carry their student ID for verification. Under the supervision of a Porter, a student would be escorted to their rooms for identification and collection of their items,” he said

In a statement from the JCR, they asked their members to ‘remain calm as measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of items.

Meanwhile, Jean Nelson Aka Hall also announced that residents can come for their belongings in the hall.

The exercise will be undertaken between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm on working days.
