President Akuffo-Addo establishes the Bono Region Fire Service Headquarters and a maternity block at Sunyani Hospital

President Akuffo-Addo has dedicated the Fire Service’s Bono Region Headquarters, the Sunyani Government Hospital’s newly built Maternity and Mental Health Block, and the 3rd Battalion Infantry Base’s Administration Block.

On Wednesday, August 11th, 2021, as part of the President’s working tour to the Bono Region, his first stop was the Bono Region Fire Service Headquarters, whose construction began in 1992 but was abandoned and left to the whims of the weather. As a result, the structural integrity of the majority of the columns and load-bearing walls began to deteriorate.

As a result, when the Akuffo-Addo government took office in July 2017, an evaluation was completed, indicating that if no work on the building was started, it would have to be demolished.

Indeed, the lack of a Regional Headquarters in the region hampered the functioning of the Fire Service Command, which had to compete for office space with the Sunyani Municipal Fire Station.

The Akuffo-Addo government contributed GH2,820,884.29 to the development of the office complex, which was finished on May 4, 2021. The construction of a maintenance workshop, staff housing, and a canteen will begin soon in phase two of the project.

The next stop on the President’s itinerary was the Sunyani Municipal Hospital’s new Maternity and Mental Health Block.

Prior to the development of the new facility, the old facility served around 80,000 people each year. The Sunyani Municipal Assembly built the new Maternity Block in response to the increased delivery rates at the maternal ward.

The Mental Health Clinic was also created to provide health services in order to lower the risk of chronic diseases caused by stress, anxiety, and substance misuse in the town and throughout the region.
