I am not worried about increasing Covid-19 Cases-Dr. Micheal Owusu

A virologist from the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR), Dr. Micheal Owusu has disclosed that he is not perturbed by the increment in the number of COVID-19 cases.

According to him, there is an inverse relationship between the number of detected cases and the number of deaths recorded.

Speaking to Focus FM’s Nana Kwadwo Jantuah on the Teknokrat show, the virologist explained that many individuals have been tested for the COVID-19 and persons who have been found to have tested positive have been isolated and put on treatment. This, he said has reduced the number of COVID-19 patients in the various hospitals.

He further indicated that the only cause for alarm would be the inability of officials to identify infected individuals who are asymptomatic and the people they have been in contact with.

”If we are testing and quarantining those who have been in contact with infected persons and isolating those who are sick then we are better off because we’ll be reducing the rate at which people will get to the hospital”.

Though the number of COVID-19 cases in Ghana is currently increasing, there has not been an equal response in the number of routine cases and the number of deaths hence Dr. Owusu advised Ghanaians to remain calm and desist from spreading fear.

He admonished that the government will have to re-evaluate its strategies in combating the COVID-19 pandemic should there be a correspondence in the number of recorded cases and the number of hospital cases as well as death cases.

He reminded Ghanaians of the prevalence of the COVID-19 and underscored the need to adhere to the precautionary measures laid down by health officials.

“Now, we have to be more careful than before. With any individual you meet, there’s a 50% probability that the individual carries the virus so you have to be more careful other than that, you may pick the virus” he said.
