The Pandemic: KNUST Student Writes Poem about coronavirus outbreak – #Skid the Poet

A poet from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) known as Skid the Poet has written spoken word poetry to address the coronavirus and social distancing that is being implemented across Ghana saying that the art form can be consoling in times of crisis because it “asks us just to focus, and think, and be contemplative”.

Skid the Poet’s new poem “THE PANDEMIC” moves from the need for everyone to observe the social distancing to the need to stay safe in the wake of the pandemic COVID-19.

His open remarks call for people to remain locked in their rooms before they catch the virus. He says the lands are not safe for humans, animals are rather taking over, whiles denoting the coronavirus as a scary feminine monster devouring the entire world.

“I am looking at her through darkness and I can still see her eyeballs. She is coming for all of us. She is spreading her wings across all borders of the world”.

The technocrat poet who impacts sense through his poem admonishes people who play politics with the pandemic.

These times are troubling. There are panic and displacement of people. people are dying every now and then and the higher offices want to play politics with us for their own selfish gains,” he says.

His poem references a synopsis of the book of Ecclesiastes about time saying “This is not the time for intelligence—we would have found the cure, this is not the time for blames–it won’t give us hope, this is not the time for worrying–it is not worth it, this is not the time for lies–some would have found comfort in that, but this is history which is ushering us in the new world”.
