Students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology would Thursday 12th March 2020 go to the polls to elect new parliamentary representatives at the Non-residential level.
Nine candidates are expected to be voted for in five constituencies which are; Campus, Kentinkrono, Bomso, Kotei, and Ayeduase.
Ahead of the elections, some students say the poor state of security off-campus is their most pressing concern, which they want the next SRC Members of Parliament to focus attention and resources on addressing, in collaboration with the school authorities.
Speaking in an interview with Focus News, a cross-section of the students who reside outside the campus stated that they want the aspirants to advocate more on their behalf especially with security.
“We want the aspiring MPs to come up with clear blueprints on how to make the off-campus much safer, especially during the night, in order to earn our votes,” a second-year mathematics student told Focus News.
According to the SRC electoral commission, all continuing students including first-year students who are not residents of the traditional halls are eligible to vote in the March 12 polls.
The commission in a statement has cautioned all aspirants to end all forms of campaigning by 11:59 PM on 11th March 2020 while announcing the commencement of voting tomorrow.
“The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the general student’s body that elections for the Non-Residential constituencies will be held tomorrow, 12th March 2020. The Commission wishes to inform candidates that campaigning will officially end at 11:59 PM-midnight, “The statement stated.
